A:
I don't think it's participle construction but I agree that it is confusing. I don't think it's very wonderful English either. This is what it means: Some scientists made some advertisments. In these advertisments they asked for (requested) that people who experience chills when listening to music get in contact with them (respond). 217 people contacted the scientists. The scientists chose 10 of those people to experiment on.

A:
I was diagnosed with an infectious disease by the doctor, and I'm afraid I may have passed it on/given it to you. Don't worry, there are two effective vaccines to treat it.
*diagnosed
*"I'm afraid you may/might have" since you don't currently know
*I don't think "contaminated" fits this context. I think it should technically be "infected" but I worded it a little lighter (given it to you/passed it on to you)
-And I'm not sure if a vaccine can prevent something you already have, so I said "treat" instead
*And finally, I don't think a colon would be the best punctuation to use, you should probably just end the sentence off with a period
